I am a Professor at FGV Law School in Rio de Janeiro (FGV Rio Law) currently on leave (August 2024-August 2026) to do my postdoctoral research at the Karsh Institute of Democracy at the University of Virginia (UVA). At FGV, I coordinated FGV Rio Law's Diversity and Inclusion Program (August 2023 to August 2024) and have taught several undergraduate and postgraduate courses, such as International Human Rights Law (2023, 2024), Internet Policy (2021, 2022), and AI and Human Rights (2023). I also coordinated the "Digital Safety Program," an extension project, and taught in the LLM in Law and Technology, offering courses such as Programming for Lawyers and Internet Governance.

Since 2019, I have acted as a researcher at FGV Rio Law's Center for Technology and Society, coordinating relevant projects on Platform Regulation, such as the "Digital Media and Conflict Prevention" project (2023-25), funded by the European Commission with a Horizon Grant, and the "Online Content Moderation" project (2022-2023).
-
In addition, since 2022, I have acted as co-coordinator of the Dynamic Coalition on Platform Responsibility at the United Nations Internet Governance Forum. I am also a Platform Governance Research Network Steering Committee member and a practicing lawyer, registered at the OAB-RJ, where I was Vice-Chairwoman of the Commission for Freedom of Expression in the Digital World.
-
More recently, in 2024, I was nominated to the National Cybersecurity Committee (CNCiber) under the Brazilian Presidency.

Academic background

-
I completed my PhD in Sociology at IESP-UERJ, where my dissertation, Online Gender-Based Violence: Techno-Silencing and Strategies of Resistance in Social Networks in Brazil (2010-2022), focused on the impact of online gender-based violence (OGBV) on women’s participation in digital spaces. Through a multi-method approach, I conducted in-depth interviews with women journalists, activists, and politicians and analyzed official statements from social media platforms like Google, Meta, and Twitter between 2016 and 2021. I coined the term "techno-silencing" to describe how private regulatory practices within platforms contribute to the restriction of expression. This dissertation aims to advance understanding in the fields of digital sociology and gender studies by shedding light on the power structures embedded in social media platforms that shape experiences of gender-based violence and silencing.
-
I have a Master's Degree in Social Sciences from the Pontifical Catholic University in Rio de Janeiro and two Bachelor's Degrees, one in Law and one in Social Sciences, from FGV, with an academic exchange periodat the Université Sorbonne Paris-IV.

-
I have also acted as a data analyst at the Public Policy Department from FGV-Rio (DAPP-FGV), a consultant for the NGO Soul Sisters (São Paulo), and a correspondent for the Stop Street Harassment NGO in Washington-DC.
